Just because you have a furnace in your home (which many of us in Western New York do) doesn’t mean that it was properly installed and is working properly.
A poorly installed furnace could mean many things for you and your family. First and foremost, it means that your heating system is not working as efficiently as it could if it had been properly installed. Secondly, it puts you and your family at risk for gas leaks, electric issues if there is faulty wiring and air quality issues.
Signs of a Bad Heating Installation
There are certain ways to determine if your furnace was poorly installed.
Of course, routine maintenance and tune-ups are to be expected when it comes to your furnace, just like any other household device. However, if you find that you’re spending more than half the cost of a brand new furnace on repairs that is an indication that something is not right and that you should consider a replacement.
Certain scents from a furnace are standard and almost expected. This is sometimes a result of the dirt and dust that accumulates around a furnace, which oftentimes results in a burning smell. This smell usually goes away after a few hours, but if it persists the air filter may need to be changed. Mechanical-like smells and a rotten egg smell could indicate more serious problems. If you’re noticing a mechanical-like smell that is similar to the burning of rubber or metallic you should turn off your heat and call one of our service technicians. If you smell rotten egg you may have a gas leak. In this case, it’s best to evacuate your home and call 911. When it’s determined safe for you to return home, contact us for a furnace replacement.
If you’re hearing humming, screeching, or popping sounds coming from your furnace you should consider a replacement.
